Hi guys! In honour of AAPI month, I decided to read Pachinko, written by Min Jin Lee. So far I am about halfway through the novel, and already the plot is so incredibly gripping. The plot revolves around a young woman who grows up during the dark and cruciating times of the Japanese occupation of Korea, where she has to navigate how to balance preserving her Korean identity and dignity without putting herself in danger. Lee’s writing perfectly illustrates the emotion of the young woman as well as putting a direct spotlight over Koreans and their struggle against the Japanese. Though the premises of the story is quite saddening, every word and every little bit of Pachinko will leave you craving more!

Best first line of a novel, ever, ”History has failed us, but no matter.” You know you’re about to enter heartbreaking territory. Loved the novel and TV show.
